Hoosic Valley's own Resident Artist

January 31, 2018 - Congratulations to our elementary art teacher, James Zeger, on his recently published work.  Mr. Zeger illustrated the book Hey Tuskegee! by Robert Constant.  This is Mr. Zeger’s fourth published book. He has also illustrated Letters from Woody Woodchuck, More Letters from Woody Woodchuk and Bradford the Camping Kangaroo: Meets the Florida Gators.

Mr. Zeger got started in the book illustration field by submitting his portfolio to various book publishers.  Mascot Books was impressed with Mr. Zeger’s work and added him to their collection of illustrators.  Authors review the portfolios on file and select an illustrator for their book.  Mr. Zeger and Mr. Constant worked for about a year on the illustrations for Hey Tuskegee!. They started by brain storming ideas, then drawing sketches, with the author’s approval final drawings were created and then the book was ready for release.  Ihroughout the process author and illustrator were in constant communication even though they have never actually met face to face. Mr. Zeger and Mr. Constant have teamed up again and are currently working on their next book together.

Make sure to check out the illustrator next time you pick up a new book, it may be someone you know! Click here to visit Mr. Zeger’s website to view more of his artwork.

And next time you’re in the Elementary School, check out the student artwork displayed outside of the art room.  Our students create some incredible artwork under Mr. Zeger’s guidance. (Click to enlarge photos)
