May 20, 2015 - Thank you to everyone that come out and supported the budget vote yesterday. We are happy to report that the budget along with the bus purchases were both approved. Congratulations and thanks to Jim Ryan on being elected to the BOE for another four years.
Voting results: Budget - 226 yes votes vs 44 no votes. Bus purchase - 221 yes votes vs 43 no votes.
Spending Plan Maintains all Programs and Services with 0% Increase to the Tax Levy
At the April 21st Board of Education meeting, the Hoosic Valley Board of Education unanimously adopted a budget of $20,475,511. The proposed 2015-16 budget would result in a 0 percent tax levyincrease and maintains all current programs.
The 2015-16 budget proposal increases spending by $224,960, or 1.11 percent, over the current budget. Much of that increase is driven by rising costs associated with employee pensions and benefits, as well as mandated programs and services.
The proposed budget also calls for additional spending to fund the following:
Enrichment Summer School for Grades K,1,& 2 with transportation for the students.
Participation of 2 students in the Tech Smart Program.
The configuration of WIFI access points at the Elementary School.
A new Web Filter with NERIC support services
Uniforms & Equipment purchases for Athletics.
Additional Varsity Football Assistant Coach.
Replacement of the Propane Tank & Fuel lines at the High School.
Planning for the 2015-2016 school year
At the Board of Education Budget Workshop on February 23rd, Mr. Cammarata presented on Hoosic Valley Central School District’s Tax levy limit for 2015-16. The district’s tax levy limit for 2015-16 is 0.085% , which equates to only a $7,528 increase to 2014-15 levy. He advised that after discussions with the Superintendent the district will plan to develop the 2015-16 school budget within the tax levy limit.
At the November 3rd Board of Education meeting, the school board approved the 2015-2016 Budget Development Calendar.
